thanks there Forced. It is really difficult to find. Haynes doesn't bother to put it in their book for some reason...

Dieselgiant.com is an excellent source of information on DYI.

http://dieselgiant.com/valveadjustment.htm the direct link

"The specs for the adjustment are on the core support for your model. All the NON turbo 4cyl and 5cyl diesels use (.10mm or .004 inches) intake and (.30mm or .012 inches) exhaust. The turbo models use (.10mm or .004 inches) intake and (.35mm or .014 inches) exhaust."- diesel giant

hope this helps

FYI - You can find spec on the sticker located under the hood on the drivers side radiator support.

yes this sure helps. but what a ***** to do this valve adj.! I'm used to my wonderful french engine, allen key and number 11, easy access, one time right.
now I'm at cyl. #5 and it gets dark and the car seems to be in the way of progress. that's my story: at some point the car is in the way...
I have some bent 14's of a friend, but gee, what a hassle man. how I love my '87 300D now...
and then there's the shaking. why o why are these engine's soo goooood, yet they shake like hell, use oil and diesel like crazy and need adjustments every 16000 miles! good for people that like to play with their car maybe...
