126 Instrument Cluster Repair
In an effort to improve my dim dash lights, I bought an instrument cluster from an '85 380SE. The light prisms were just about perfect.
Here's my problem. Since the cluster came from a 380SE, the warning lights below the speedometer and gauges are all wrong - there is no glowplug indicator and it has an oxygen sensor warning light. I want to swap the colored inserts (Mercedes calls them rails) from my old cluster to the newer cluster. How do you get them out? Pry on the lower surface of the covering? Thanks.

IIRC you peel back the felt strip then use tweezers on the section of the strip of warning lenses exposed in the little cut-outs.

Many thanks, Sixto. That worked perfectly. The only thing I would add is that there are several dimples on the bottom edge of the warning lenses that help hold them in place. I carefully used an Xacto knife to gently loosen the lenses at these dimples.
