300sd wont start after filter change

Hey all. My 79 300sd has been acting up recently, and was to the point where it would not go over 20 mph. Bad stuttering - lack of power. Felt like a fuel issue. I had replaced the primary fuel filter a month ago which did help some. So I am thinking, well it probably needs the secondary filter replaced and I should be good to go.

So before work, I go outside to do a quick secondary filter change. Put on the new one, primed. Car started right up. After about 30 seconds it stuttered and died. Tried starting backup, and it sounds like it wants to, but will never auctually start. I really needed to get to work so I went as far as to spray a little wd-40 in the air cleaner, still nothing. Finally had to leave and get a ride.

In short: my car would not go over 20 mph but never had a hard time starting. Changed secondary fuel filter, now it wont turn over at all.

Any help would be appreciated. Ive got about an hour of light when I get home to try and fix this issue. Thanks!!!!!!

Did you fill up the 2ndary filter with fuel or fuel additive? Have you tried running with the return line and suction lines in a jar of fuel?

Last August I found my primer pump to be leaking and a primary filter split, allowing air into the system.

I had not filled the 2nd filter with fuel or additive. I was in a rush and obviously rushing things makes a bad situation worse :) I will try that, got a bottle of diesel kleen in my back yard. I will also keep in mind your troubleshooting step with the return\suction line in fuel. Thanks for the help!!

Prime more and crack all of the injector lines and crank for several revolutions, then tighten them back up.

Hey guys, after doing the above steps, found that fuel is getting to the ip, but not out of the ip after cracking open one of the injectors. I started a new ip priming thread since the issue is now isolated. Thanks for your help!
