Trim question 300SD
The car is a diesel, and I hang out here on the Diesel Board rather than the tech area, so I thought I'd ask it here.
The rear interior trim on my 1982 300SD is sagging. This is the large, inverted "U" shaped plastic piece at the rear of the headliner that covers to the top of the rear window. It extends the width of the car. How is it supposed to be held in? How is it supposed to be removed without damaging it--( In case I need to get from from the junkyard). Are there any tricks/ shortcuts to removing/ installing/ repairing it? Thanks

The laws vary by state. There is no mileage limit in MD. You must have another vehicle to regular use. Historic tagged vehicles may not be used for regular commuting, but other than that not much by way of restrictions.

are you talking about the piece that houses the rear dome light?
mine is sagging too... if anybody has a solution, besides remove and replace, i'm for it. I was thinking about removal, and setting it upside down in the sun with some weights on the sagging part. John

Here's what I did. Mine was well sagging and loose. According to my CD shop manual, that piece is held in with clips and a metal clip where the rear dome light resides.
The cardboard on my piece was soft and sagging, and the hole where the light inserts was so worn and dog eared, the metal clip would no longer hold it up tight to the ceiling. All I did was get 1/8" thick strip of aluminium from sLowes and glued it to the cardboard backing. After I re-installed it, I carefully pushed and shaped the aluminum for a proper fit.

Remove 2 small phillips screws on the right & left ends behind the sail panels, pull down gently around the dome light to release clip, then pull foward about 2 inches. There are 2 clips that slide into the roof about 1/2 way between the dome light & the ends. If yours is sagging you can glue something to the back side to stiffen it.
