I love this place, where can you get entertainment like this for free?

4 pages is already down and barely half a day.

This is a great thread!

In the broader scope of things, 240Joe has a good point.

We obsess over maintenance when we first get these cars. Is the timing belt going to snap, should I fix 27 things that aren't broke, etc.

Then, we drive the heck out of them and begin to be amazed at how durable they are.

I no longer worry about snapping a timing belt. The engines are cheap. I average about $400 per parts car and I have three good engines out back right now. It only takes 8 hours or so to swap one, but the point is.....WE'VE DRIVEN OUR FIVE DAILY DRIVERS NOW FOR ABOUT 5 YEARS WITHOUT ANY SIGNIFICANT ISSUES.

The engine replacements that I've done are just on project cars cuz I was bored.

I change the oil because I like to, but I no long obsess over it like I once did.

I have a kid in my youth group who recently bought one. He wears me out worrying about what to fix....even though it isn't broke yet.

I think 240Joe has a good point about durability.

My wifes 2005 Accord HYBRID calls for 7,500 mile oil change intervals and to only change the filter every 15,000 miles. I am not making it up, it is in the manual. Nevertheless, the filter and oil get changed every 7,500 miles. I assume the long distance between oil changes has to do with the car being a HYBRID. The engine runs on 3 cylinders most of the time (6 cylinder car with variable cylinder technology) and goes into AUTOSTOP (engine turns off) mode when under 10 miles per hour. I could not imagine though only changing the filter every 15,000 miles. That is just plain crazy to me. If anything, I wold think it would be the other way around. As for the 300CD, it gets Rotella 15W-40 regular oil and a OEM filter every 3k. The rest of you, enjoy and good luck!

I am having an oil analysis done to my car when I change my oil next month (5k changes).. I don't really obsess over oil changes but I like to know that my engine is getting fresh oil and a new oil pan.. Last time I checked when removing the lower oil pan all the oil goes with it so I can't help it if the oil comes out. oh god someone call the EPA im changing my oil

We don't want it, he is Brian's problem now!

I'm looking forward to it as well.

My father knows a lawyer you ran his 300SD about 30k miles without popping the hood when it was new, so it can be done. But the lawyer traded it in...
