daily driver envy

I'm envious of those people on here that say they never have any issues and just drive thier cars
Feb 7th --- radiator replacement
Feb 12th -- no heat -- mononvalve replacement kit
Feb 26th -- no start away from home--AAA tow service and a new alternator

OHHHHHH the joys of an older car but i'll keep her

quit whining. 90% of the issues i have to fix is from dillholes who drive their cars until they have issues and then sell them.

my whining is related closely to Jimmmy's sarcasm

i was mostly yanking your chain. a 20yr old car is probably going to take lots of maintenance. BUT once you get it back to condition it will last another 20yrs

THAT IS unless you have type 2 CC... I have cracked my wifes console like 5 times now. Need new vac splitters they keep rattling loose.

Crap, I've put over $1500 in new parts in my 240D over the past 3 months and I have not driven it once. Not to mention the parts swapped out of the parts cars. This weekend is the alignment and then it will be a daily driver.

The daily fixer?

It's rare to find a 20+ year old car for sale that doesn't need work, even if the seller says otherwise. Most people stop repairing non-critical things after awhile; after enough things don't work, they sell the car. The "creampuff" that you spot in the driveway may look great and have a good engine and tranny and new tires, but it may also have worn shocks, broken ACC, sunroof doesn't work, etc. All of these are clues that other things are getting ready to break.

It's the price you pay for buying an old car. Even my '85, which I bought in remarkable good condition (I thought) still needed $2000 worth of work. Now that the work is complete, however, I can concentrate on important things like lubing the hood release cable, installing new speakers, and driving the thing every day (13,000 miles the first year).

Jeremy

I am pretty new to the diesel world, but like any older car it is all in the way the car is cared for. BTW the diesel is slow compared to my V8 sec, but it is starting to grow on me!

I put maybe 100-200$ in parts a month in my car.. usually 100$ and I take that as a car payment.. Plus I enjoy working on my car most of the time..

Hmmm, I can't figure out why those words seem to go so well together......
Heck, don't feel too bad. I'm on my 3rd vehicle in less than a week. Geez! And the 240D I'm trying to work out of has it's butt dragging the ground. It sits way too low even without anything in the trunk. With tools and parts in there it is ugly.
And the time has certainly come to get started on AC work on the Squash when I can drive either my truck or wagon again. I sweated all over the MB Tex today.....

Yeah the SDL bleed me pretty good the first year. But now since most of the parts on it I have replaced its pretty reliable. I like to call it a 2004 car! I think its more 2004/5/6/7 then 1987 at this point.

But yeah it sucks when a bunch of expensive things break at the same time, I have a whining post in the archives that attests to this.

Oh the SD I just turn the key, I can see how these cars can be cheap to run. Its called turn up the radio and ignore it!
