stalls until warm. 80 300SD

Hi all

I recently did a valve adjust on my 80 300SD which ended the difficult starting but did not end the stalling. The car will stall if i take my foot off the gas pedal until its about half way to operating temperature. I only have to apply slight pressure to the pedal. I also have to slighty depress the pedal when i start it even when the engine is at operating temp. Is this a rack damper bolt problem?

Many thanks

Could be the rack damper, could also be that the idle is just set too low. Try upping the idle 50rpm or so, its a screw on the side of the Injection Pump facing the engine, it has a locknut at the bottom so you'll need I think a 13mm or 14mm deep socket to loosen the nut, then a flathead screwdriver to adjust the screw.

I am also looking at the same problem. Mine idles fine once warm just not when it cold. How do the turbos adjust the idle? I think my problem is timing chain stretch + ip timing. I guess I should check the rack dampener bolt first. Its hard to wait for it to cool down every time.

Take a look at your primer pump? There's an 85 SD that I worked on that had the same problem, and when you pump the primer pump it gushes fuel...

I only used alignment marks so not very accurate but I got a 7degree offset. Waiting for trip to HF to pick up a dial indicator.
