my 300sd has 253000 miles eny way i can tell if timeing chain has been replaced or needs to be. thanks in advance you guys are great. Bobco se.ks.

Pull the valve cover, there are marks on the tower and the washer on the back side, line them up and then check the timeing marks on the crank dampner. the differance from t.d.c. is the amount of wear, up to 8 is ok mine has 245,000 miles and about 3 of wear.

I was wondering, can a stretched timing chain affect fuel economy? I never get over 26 mpg highway, and my chain was at 3 degrees about a year ago. Thanks,
