Bleeding Clutch Master Cylinder ?
I replaced the clutch master cylinder on my 81 240D and now i cant get it to bleed.
i used the "front brake caliper bleed screw to slave cylinder bleed screw" method but all that happens is after a while the fluid starts seeping around the threads and leaking. should the clutch be in or out for this method? i went to the auto parts store and asked for a "pressurized brake bleeding kit" and they looked at me like i had a *&^% growing out of my forhead. anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

ok i put teflon tape on the threads on the bleeder valves, makeing sure not to cover up the little hole so now its not seeping past the threads. but i dont see any bubbles in my resvoir and the level is not increasing.

toe hold
try taking your left toe and holding up on the clutch pedal while you apply pressure to the brake pedal.
you see the rod on the clutch master cyl has to be out far enough to allow the fluid to flow (forward to slave cyl when clutch is up)thats what keeps the slave cyl full all the time and allows any air to flow back to the brake master cyl.its self bleeding.so if that dont work then you have to adjust the slave cyl rod end at the clutch pedal so fluid flows when the clutch is out. let us know larry perkins |

ok i got it to work but now my clutch does not feel the same as before. i was able to dump the clutch and spin the gravel in my driveway but now it wont. now it just goes, i can rev it up and dump the clutch the car takes off but is sluggish and wont spin the tires.
Do i need to bleed it more? Or Do i need to adjust the adjuster on the end of the clutch master cylinder?

One of the problems with this job is the bleed nipples of the clutch an brake slaves are different sizes. I use the clear hose from the hardware store that fits snugly on the brake slave, but will not be tight enough on the smaller clutch slave nipple. The solution is tiny hose clamps which can be easily tightened using the proper size 1/4" drive socket with a 12' extension. I have the car up on jack stands and I reach the brake pedal with my right hand and pump like crazy.

How in the world do you manage to control a 12 foot extension????
On my 307d, which has the clutch master cylinder mounted like the brake master cylinder, I was able to bleed the clutch system by having someone push down on the clutch pedal while I opened the bleeder screw. Took about 5 or 6 times as I recall. It had taken a gulp of air from the brake fluid inthe brake reservoir being too low.

I'm sure you are familiar with the saying "everybody likes a little ass, but nobody likes a smart ass OK, a twelve footer might be a tad long unless your really short.

black,
the best way to spin the wheels on a 240d is to move way up north, theres a little ice on the surface most time .

Spinning tires
I just thought it was an early version of traction control. I don't even think I can spin my tires in sand.
