Check out this rare find I drove today...

Great looking, great driving CAYENNE ORANGE 300D

original link: http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/car/285093745.html

Someone buy this car...seriously, I can't - I really want my 240D 4-speed...but SOMEONE on this board will want this car! Save it from a crappy SVO/WVO conversion!

The color alone makes it worth an extra $1000, but that still doesn't get it up near their asking price. Does the evil servo work? AC work? The front seats were covered. What is their condition.
On the positive side of the ledger is that color. You could own 20 MB's, and never sniff a car of that color. And matching hubbies.......
Lots of small improvements on W123's since that first year of production.....

Seats were in great shape, I looked. Only a small crack in the MB-Tex in the front driver's side. The back was mint.

Btw...AC Wise...

This car could hide out amoungst the local utility trucks quite well. I never even knew the color existed.

It's not bad looking, but that does appear to be a dent on the right front, I assume the dash is cracked, and the AC needs fixing. That's at least $2-3K more to get it right (maybe more), on top of the $3500 price. I just don't think I would pay $6K+ for a NA 300D with an auto transmission.

Put a big stem on the roof, and you would have a giant pumpkin on wheels!

ok...so the color isn't that bad. Actually, I bet it grows on you quickly (no pun intended)

I thought the same at first, but now I'm thinking its a reflection, look at the line that runs down the side also.... If its a dent then thats a shame.

I do think it is a dent, it appears in the same place in two photos from different angles. Also, the shadow under the molding appears to indicate a dent. I may be wrong.

looks like a dent to me.

yeah if the condition is not pretty good the price is high.

i don't agree that any color makes it worth more.

The color was apparently a "safety" color developed in Germany in the 70's. VW's had it too. Possibly other makes. I saw several Mercedes in South Africa in that color including a 116. It was certainly unique.

Thumbs up

Pretty nifty color!

I've seen a 240D w/o a sunroof with my eyes.

in the pics there is definately a dent. it even goes under the moulding and shows above it. no telling when the pics were took (could have been when the current owner bought it a few years ago) and it is likely that they fixed it since the pics.
