Ok then, anyone else that has ventured into the 123 wagon rear hatch lock mechanism, the hydraulic lock actuator seems to work just fine, and the rod goes into the lock and unlock position very surely via vacuum or manually.
Which side do I need to be on and what do I need to press, pull, push or lever in order to open the hatch? .

Iirc, the key needs to go in the lock button, then turn it left all the way, then the button will work.

FWIW I had a similar issue recently and ended up that my kids had let something fall into the latch area, required more than average door opening pulling to get it open.

See if you can get a long screwdriver or pry bar behind items 29 and 17 (first post) and pry/move them towards the front of the vehicle. That's how I had to open mine.

OK, I got it open. When the outer button is pressed, the lever that it is pushing is not going far enough. I need to add a spacer in between the lock cylinder and the t-shape at the top of the lever.
Thank you all.
