major coolant leak 1987 300td

heres the deal,

there was a coolant leak in one of the coolant lines. the car overheated but was not on the road for more than a couple minutes. the leak was fixed but now there is a bigger leak coming from the rear of the engine compartment. thought it might have been the heater core so bypassed it still leaking like crazy but cant see from where. is this a head gasket leak? are there any other hoses that could have blown in the rear of the engine compartment? how would i be able to tell if it is a head failure?

thanks,

piper

There are hoses that run on the firewall to the head. Also check the monovalve assembly. Good job isolating the heater core. You will need to keep the system full, and with the engine running see if you can spot the leak.

what is the monovalve?

do you have any advice about looking down in that area? just cant seem to see with a extend-a-mirror?

from another post i was able to determine that the coolant exit is on the back of the head? right?

thanks
piper
