Is propane injection safe for 290k motor?

Hello everyone,

I am just wondering if it would be safe to put a propane injection kit on my 83 300td. I have about 291,000 miles on it, and Im curious if it would be detremental to the engine to do it. If it is safe which kit should I use and how much propane should I inject?

Any info will be very much appreciated.

Andy

Just turn up the full load setting on the injection pump. It's free and has better results.

Propane fumigation is a waste of money.

Actually, my friend who works at ford, gave me an oil cooler off of a police interceptor. it had a large pipe in the center that has inlets at both ends that u run coolant on the lower radiator hose thru, and there are 2 other tubes that circulate the oil around the outside of the tube in the center. I am actually thinking about trying to make that into an intercooler and running air thru the center section instead of coolant and having water in the oil area and have it cooled with a tranny oil cooler on the front of the rad. i dunno if itll be very efficient but itll be worth a try.

Also, how much can I turn up my IP? Like Could I make a noticible difference in power?

It will likely be too restrictive. Why not try a purpose built air/water intercooler? Air/water intercooler installed in my 240D

Liquid coolers cannot flow enough to work with air. It would choke your engine.

There are good A/W intercoolers on ebay right now for $150.

only reason I ask, because normally i know that it wouldnt work, but this cooler has an inch and 1/2 inlet and an inch and 1/2 outlet.

i think they are referring to the number of bends that the big pipe makes not the actual diameter.

Diameter plays a big part of it. 1-1/2" is very restrictive. 2" is the minimum diameter you should consider for an engine this size. 2.5" would be better if you have the space.

What the heck kind of fluid is it cooling to need 1-1/2"dia tubes? I've seen large hydraulic oil coolers that don't even need tubing that big.

Wouldnt suprise me on a police interceptor. Built for long (and short) high speed chases.
