(They're the same car, just more pictures)

I know the not stopping with the key is a vaccuum leak (I hope) but it's a European 240D!

looks like a euro to me

Grab it quick if it runs and isn't rusty. It looks clean. I wouldn't hesitate. It might be good enough your'e actually taking advantage of the guy (maybe) but he's stated the price. It's a MANUAL euro. That's a good thing..
Frankly if he has the title and paperwork, I'd bring the cash and just get it.

Quick, concrete evidence it's a euro car:

1. a '79 and no "DIESEL" script on right of trunk

2. Euro heater controls, way too much trouble to have been changed to US configuration

3. dark roof mounted tinted wind deflector was VERY common accessory on Gerrman W123 sedans and coupes.

4. Euro lights and euro bumpers

5. Paint claimed original appears to be a Euro color

6. Antenna for radio is on the right front fender as common in W123 euros, US cars had them on the rear quarter panel

The VIN# would clinch it's Euro pedigree. The country is not exactly awash in rust free euro W123 240 Diesels with MANUAL!! In fact it never was.

Looks good. But I wonder if it was converted to a 240D.

One part of the ad really caught my eye: ( not converted to run on vegetable oil but my friend said he saw on 'myth busters' you can pute vegie oil straight in the tank and run with no modification)

Euro for sure. Is it a '78 or '79? Report says 200, trunk badge says 240?

Color appears to match. Appears pretty basic, manual sunroof and radio only options of note. Wind windows are GOOD.

If it's a good rust free runner, it
sounds like a good one for that price.

i saw that one too...they were testing to see if it could be done. and we all know it can. but they set up a seperate tank like the DP (they even got the return line in the mini tank:D ). then tested the MPG for SVO and diesel. the SVO returned a better mpg if i remember correctly.

I would guess against that. SVO has less energy than #2 diesel. The cetane is higher but the BTU content is less per volume.

I wonder why such a rare car is so cheap....in LA? Sounds fishy. I hope it's not a bait n' switch or if the engine is 3 cranks from running away.

You will find that in the forum environment, if you ask questions about a car in an ad, and display the ad, somebody will swoop in and grab the car out from under you if a good deal. And that is a fantastic deal!
Has happened here more than a time or two......;)

Looks like a buy to me if it's a runner with no rust problems. Don't see many in my neck of the woods :(

I'm well aware. Haha...hey, if I don't get the car, someone else will, and I hope it's someone on here who will love the car.

I pass a car exactly like that almost every day. Same color, Euro 240D. Have watched it for more than 2 years.
It is at a very rundown house in the deep hood! Not one I will be going to the door to ask about. It was moved into the back yard several months ago, and has not gone anywhere for quite a while....
It is half a mile from a diesel fintail I watch too, but same area except this is at run down warehouse type building. Nobody has vandalized it though. Hubbies are still there......
