what is the preferred cooling fan in the turbo cars?

OK silly question I think...should the hose build any pressure?
my 82 SD has an all aluminum fan in it, my two parts cars have plastic fans mounted onto the fan clutch.
which one is better? any difference? any opinions?
I have a nice electric cooling fan kit I may put in, but the car works SOOO well... I kinda hate to modify it...
Why is my SD so FAST?
anyway... just wondering.

The plastic fan is the most recent design. I believe it has 9 blades versus the seven blades on the original aluminum fan.

I put the plastic fan in the SD awhile ago but never noticed the difference.

The plastic one is the updated model. It is also mounted to a smaller diameter water pump pulley The new water pump/fan ratio is something like 0.9:1 vs 1.09:1 You will need new shorter belts to go with it.

It will flow more water through the engine and pull more air through the radiator. I'm not sue if the fan clutch was updated as well.

Do you know if the new pulley was provided in the later vehicles from the factory? Or must it be procured for all vehicles as a retrofit?

I've seen it on most 84 and 85 vehicles. If it's got the 9-blade plastic fan, it's very likely got the smaller pulley is on there as well. I got my set off a junkyard car and I see some more every so often.

You can upgrade the fan and leave the stock pulley without harm. However, you can't use the smaller pulley with the aluminum fan. It can spin the fan too fast which may cause it to break apart.

Really..... I am using that same setup right now. I have the plastic fan sitting in my garage, do you think I should change it out right away?
