BTW, on the alda, does anyone know the correct type and size of the line that comes from the banjo bolt going to the fitting thats on the firewall by the driver's side? I had been wanting to replace the line since I broke the tip at the banjo end a few months ago. I cut that tip off and reattached it to the banjo but it may be a bit short.
If it's an inductive timing light that reads the electrical surge during a spark on a gasser, I do not see how it will work. You could put it on the tach amp cable that run from the sensor to that amp and see if it will activate the strobe light.

ALDA Question

Why does the ALDA need adjusting from factory setting? What system degrades that requires the ALDA to be adjusted later on?

MB tuned the ALDA for emissions limits (Black smoke). Diesel back then was not as clean as it is now. Modern diesel has less energy than it used to so the ALDA needs to be tweaked to return the performance back to the way it used to be.

I read in other posts that many are cruising at about 2500 rpm. Would be good to know what speed that is. On my 85D, at 70mph, I'm at about 3000 rpm.

ALDA Adjustment

I finally did it last night. If I were to suggest on how to remove the seal with the least damage to the plastic part of the cap I would start from the top part of the aluminum metal that wraps around the plastic cap. I used a small pair of wire cutter pliers and carefully snipped the top edge of the metal and peeled it back. I then used a long-nosed plier and continued peeling the metal off until I got it down to the base. This left the plastic cap intact and all I did was pull it up. This also allowed me to push the cap back in when I was done.

With the engine turned off, I turned the ALDA screw 1 1/4 turns ccw. When I tested it, there seemed to be a noticeable improvement in accelleration. I am not pressing on the gas pedal as much to get it going. I did not play with it enough yet. I may go 1/4 more turn and see what happens. Whatever I did, it seems to have made the engine run just a bit rough but still idles fine. Too early to tell how fuel consumption is affected.

BTW, is this adjustment suppose to be done with the engine running?
