W124 lower door trim R&R

2 Attachment(s)
The trim strip at the bottom of the driver's door on my wife's 1987 300D has popped loose from two or three of its clips. I need to remove it, bend it flat (more or less), and put it back on. The FSM (88-800, "Removal and installation of trim on side wall") says to "press on" and "press off" but I don't know if they are talking about "pressing off" the trim strip from the clips or the clips from the sheet metal. Anyone have experience? I'd rather not break it any worse than it already is. :D

2 clips and one screw

the same thing happened to the passenger side of the TD. As I recall if you look at if closely (and look at your passenger door) there is a self tapping screw that goes from the inside of the door into the trim piece, which in your case in no longer there. You will not be able to replace this screw as the trim is 'stripped'. I drilled a small hole through the outside of the trim and put a small 3-4 mm screw from the outside to the inside with a flat nut.

I just tried to take a pic, but it is too dark out and you can't see anything in it, sorry. I think if you look closely at the pass door, you'll figure it out. :)

I bought one and installed it a few months ago. I posted the steps in the thread above.

Thanks!

Thanks for the speedy replies. It's fixed now.

I was able to twist the strip a little and re-seat the three clips that had come undone. Then...

The screw at the end was still there; the clip had pulled out of the trim strip but I was able to pound it back in place and then put the screw back in. How long it will last is another matter...but at least it's in for now. :D

I had seen your post " WTB 124 Front Passenger Door Trim," Jim, but ignored it, alas, because I wasn't looking to buy or sell. :o

I posted that there to help others when they needed to install their trim. I never considered that the title, "WTB...", would make people skip over the thread! Ooopps!!

Oh well, this thread will ge them there if they are searching.

Good to hear you got it back together.
