Huge Oil Mess...and missing parts

Since it was a nice day, and it was time to change the oil...I got a little adventureous.

I found the air/oil separator tube had some how disconnected from the bottom of the air cleaner, and so there is a nice oily mess on the passenger side and along the bottom of the car. The tube is reattached, but is very loose fitting.

So, I am ordering the replacement seals and the turbo U-Tube seals.

I also found a nut missing from the where the turbo mounts to the block and a nut missing from where the engine mount support arm mount to the block. Anybody know where to get them beside the stealership?

Also, is there a bracket that keeps the air/oil separator drain tube from moving around?

Thanks!

hope the parts come easy.

glad you and the car are otherwise "ok"

we were just out having an "italian tuneup" nice to drive/enjoy it and not work on it

Hey, I'm Italian....so I do Polish, Redneck, and Italian tunes ups..:D

Glad you had a good drive. I do like turning wrenches on this car.

I have more to do like front passenger lock actuator, dash vent actuators, check straps, door weather stripping, etc, but other than that, my old MB is running like a champ! A/C blows nice and cold at the vents and windshield, sun roof still works.

I still need to see why I can have the left rear window operate from the door switch, but not the console.

Take that console switch out, and clean it up... If not, they're easy enough to come by...

me too i am at the point where i am going to button the door back up at move on to something else. when i pull the carpet and console down the road i ll take care of it then

i have had the car for 2 weeks and for the first week it was dealing with the rear left window- no drive. this last week it has been drive and getting the feel for her.

I suspect that, upon closer examination, you will determine that the turbo mounts to the exhaust manifold.

There should be a clamp that bolts to the manifold support bracket.

Interesting concept

Doing such a tune-up... does it mean driving your car hard for an extended period of time? How hard? And for how long? And, specifically, what does it achieve?

In the 50's or 60's Italian cars were know to foul plugs at low RPM. So to "tune it up" you were to drive at high RPM to burn up, blow out the carbon build up as long for as it takes to smooth out idle. Sounds like as good an excuse to have fun driving as any. Don't know how effective on a diesel. Albeit a friend does that occasionally, he rarely gets over 35 MPH, or more than a few miles anywhere, as he walks to work. He also uses no name fuel. I have a 35 mile one way commute 90% of which is interstate, and use 45 cetane, brand name diesel, and a shot of PowerService, I feel there is a difference. I also do the purge thing. Hope this helps.

You mean the LM Diesel Purge or similar? How often do you do that? And do you necessarily have to change the fuel filters after doing it, in your opinion?

The fasteners are readily available at most hardware stores, at least in CT. Just take one in and ask the shop to match it, both in grade and in size. I have found my local hardware stores carry a wide variety of metric fasteners, and even found a replacement camshaft sprocket hex head cap screw for a 190E 2.3-16 - exact length and same grade - for under a buck.

Good luck, and hope this helps. Jim

Hey, thanks for the info so far guys!

Nate, I have brand new switches in the console. That is what makes it confusing. Oh well!

Today, I replaced the bad passenger side lock actuator, and found NO plastic moisture barrier.

Any ideas for a suitable replacement?

Thanks!
