door vacuum lock part??

I have a major vacuum leak. I think it is the driver's side back door locking mechanism. When I look it up on Fastlane all I see is a vacuum element for $62. I assumed all I would need is a rubber diaphragm of some kind. That seems a little steep for a piece of rubber. Does anyone know if it can be fixed with a diaphragm and a source for it? Or, do I need to spring for the whole vacuum element at that price?

I know you can get replacement diaphragms for the older ones the newer ones you must replace the whole actuator, or do the condon fix, what year are you talking about?

well, i've got similar problems...leaks with the little conical rubber coverings that seal the actuator to it's shaft. after much research, i've discovered they WERE available separately (part # is 123 800 00 09), but mercedes will no longer sell 'em to you. if ANYBODY's got a source on these, or a good fix (substitution fabricated part) , please lemme know!

Check out the bone yards, in the mean time use golf tees to plug the vac lines so you can lock and unlock the system.

I just pulled 3 out of a boneyard- one older-stock- unit, and 2 bosch? units which were rigged in by mig welding a 2" stove bolt to the end of the lock shafts on the car they were in.

i used the stock one to fix my car, but I'd be willing to part w/ 1 of the others for a fair price, if you have the ability to weld.

This seemed like a good thread to add my pics from the job I did today. Had shutoff issues AND the door locks would not work. ['85 300TD]
Well, as luck would have it, I have a leak in both the climate vac system and the door lock vacuum.
I always start under the drivers carpet, where the lines come from the door lock valve. Yellow/red is lock, yellow/green is unlock.
I hooked Mityvac to y/r to valve and it held. Same with y/g and it held [with door lock button moved from previous test]. Both positions of door lock valve held vacuum, so I new problem was not the valve but was further in the car.
Under carpet, left edge, are the two lines from this valve. The Y/R goes into a 1 to 2 splitter, and sends vac to back driver's side door through one, and over to passenger side for the rest of the car. Same with y/g.
As "luck" would have it, my leak was in driver's side rear door. Had it been elsewhere, I would have gone under passenger carpet and chased it from there.
This wagon has much newer style door lock vacuum actuators than some of my other ones have had. Like a post above, the diaphram on the top shaft was torn. It was difficult as I had to do some custom bending, but I installed an older style unit from my parts stash.
Works fine, and the door locks work quickly, and even work 6-8 times at least after car is turned off. Very cool, and an enjoyable day of fixing something.....
