Possible brake upgrade: 300D to 300SD
I've read that the 300SD brakes are vented. The 300D's are not.
The change involves replacing the calibers, rotors, and maybe pads. Would this upgrade give a significant increase in stopping time? Any negatives? |
Calipers, rotors, and backplates.
Better high speed stopping and longer pad life. |
So are only the SD's front brakes vented?
I do not see it as an option for the rear brakes. If this is the case is there any benefit to upgrading the rears to the SD standard? |
first off, if they were better, they would REDUCE your stopping time... actually, reduction of stopping distance is the general benchmark...
second the SD brakes will not help that at all, same calipers with a spacer to make up for the vented rotor. they will give you better sustained braking due to better cooling of the friction surface. also they will as mentioned above, give you longer pad life, as well as better rotor life! John |
are the SD rear discs vented too?
|
Slightly OT, but my 240D came with cross drilled rear rotors (laugh here). Any idea where the PO would have got these, or are they a modified stock part?

Omegabenz has upgraded his front brakes to W126 560SEL calipers + rotors. |
Do they make cross drilled fronts as well?

I wanted to put W126 calipers on my car after worldpac sent me the wrong rotors.. I ordered a front set of Brembos... The ones I got were vented and aparently to thick...
