turbo engine
hey gang, would anyone ever research the exhaust valves on the 617,601,602,603 turbo diesels to see if they are sodium filled or not.
i am getting conflicting info, like maybe the heavy duty truck engines had the sodium filled stems but the passenger engine did not come with the special valve. thanks for any insight. larry perkins lou ky |

thanks, i looked for some pricing on exhaust valves and the 617 valve sure must have something special, its really high.
seeing as how there is a hazard involved in handling the sodium filled valve it makes sense to me that they would have some sort of code marked. i have a exhaust valve from a 602(2.5 liter) in my hand and the number is (a6010527 and then the mercedes symbol). i gave the number to my parts guy and his computer dosent recognize it as a good number. did you cut one to determine sodium present? thanks larry perkins |

Cut it and dunk it in water...if you get fireworks then it is sodium filled.
Just kidding
