%$#@ twelve point bolt on fan!
Help! I need to remove the fan and there is ONE twelve point bolt that I can't remove. Clearances are too tight to insert closed wrench over the head, and 10mm crescent is too small, and 11mm is too big. (I also tried SAE) The only other thing I can think of is locking pliers, but they just slide off. The other three were 10mm, no problem. Is there supposed to be one of these on there? Has anyone run across this before? If I remove the viscus thing in front of it, will it give me clearance?
I'm a bit of a newbie here as you can tell. I am trying to rebuild the vacuum pump and I need room to work. I'd rather not attempt this with the fan in place. Thanks! Todd |

All 10mm on the ones I've worked on. But, need to grind a small portion of the outside of the box end portion to get it to fit down onto the bolts.

Sounds like a good idea, but I don't have a grinder yet. I'll have to see if any of my friends have one. Thanks!

Some cheap 10mm box end wrenches are thin enough to fit without grinding.

try a 3/8 one
might fit. Some people use imperial to replace the metric they can't find

Its also pretty effective on knuckles hands and arms (looking at left hand) god forbid you try it at 100+ (nothing like memorieeeessss...). Perhaps you want to stick to concrete sidewalks.

I just used this method recently to grind down my 14mm for doing valves. I even have a compressor and grinder. Something about metal to concrete brings the kid out in me.
