Oil Thread, beware... Castrol full syn 5W40 OK?

it is only CF rated, but there is about a case for less than 4.00/quart at my walmart, and it's on the clearance shelf. just wondering if it would be decent for a 617 turbo... I use M1 usually.

sorry for the oil thread...

again...
John

It should work fine if it's Cx rated. I think there is a member here that uses it.

whoo hoo! lower cost oil change coming up!
I like the CI-4 rating better, but 5ish a quart gets to you.

Mobil, Castrol, etc., can list the CF rating on the bottle without any addtional expense. They simply review their data package and see that the data required to claim API CF is readily available at no additional cost. Therefore they claim API CF since it's still very much an active category in many parts of the world where engine mfrs don't permit the use of Cx-4 oils. The American truck oils have very high levels of additization and don't meet the specs of the Euro and Asian diesel engine mfrs.

We are moving towards a lo-SAPS environment. Take a look at the new CJ-4 API truck oils. They are starting to look more like the Euro diesel engine oils.
