valve adjustment for dummies

well,

Call me stupid but the other day i try the valve adjustment with the 2 14mm wrench and i could not prevent the spring retaining cap (the 30mm nut under the lock nut) to spin without the locking nut in any of the valves.
a lot of people insist that you just need the 2 14mm wrench but i also think you need the holding 30mm wrench recommended in the FSM to prevent the spring from turning.
I am missing something here?

Nope. I use a pair of needle nose visecrips on the springs to hold them. Hardly elegant but does the job.
