Question Transmission woes....

Ever since I changed my tranny fluid & filter I have been getting a jump when I go from 2 -> 3 & 3 down to 2nd.

I was hoping this would go away quietly after the new old trannie got used to the new fluid, but it hasn't.

I did everything to spec right fluid & filter etc. , but I have heard before you should never change old T fluid cause it builds up a "varnish" that the trannie gets "used to".

I am now ready to take her in to a Transmission shop I know is honest & capable of working on old Diesel MBs- but does anyone have any good advice prior, or knowwhat this could be???

THanks! AA

What do youy mean by a "jump" Is is a flaring issue, or does is seem to from 2nd to third almost instantly?

Hmmm. Jump as in it bangs from 2nd to 3rd? Not a flare? Mine developed a very slight occasional flare after I changed my fluid. I'm going to put in the K-1 spring kit at my next fluid change in another 10K or so. Would the kit also work for a harsh 2-3 shift? Hmm.

I don't know what a flare is. BUt this is a jolt, or a "bang".

See if the vacuum line to the modulator is still connected. The little rubber connecting hose can be pretty cheesy after 20 years. Easy to bump it and knock it loose while working under there.

Hard shifts are the result of insufficient vacuum to the modulator.

You need a vacuum gauge and some tests to find out the culprit.

As mentioned, the first place to look is the hard line that connects to the modulator on the left side of the trans.
