GP light does NOT glow...

when I first start up after it has sat in the garage overnight. I can drive it 5 miles down the road, stop the engine, go into the *mall* or *wherever*, get back in several hour later, restart and the light glows nicely . It will continue to function properly the rest of the day no matter how many times I turn it off / on!

BUT, leave it overnight, and in the morning the same thing happens...NO glow light prior to starting . Do I need to go through and ohm test all the gp's? Thanks for the replies.

I'd start by testing the glow plugs with an ohm meter. Takes ten minutes and that will at least tell you if you've got a bad glow plug(s).

It's possible you have a bad connection at one or more of the GPs that "closes up" when the engine is warm. How does it start when cold? Is it smooth or does it seem like one cylinder is missing?

Check all of the connections at each plug and tighten them if any are loose.

Could also be the relay fuse but then you'd get no glow at all at startup and it would take lots of cranking to get it going from cold.

Thanks to you all. I will test them and see what's going on with that.

I'll just need to blow the dust off the "testing GP with an ohmeter procedure" thread!

To test GP's, pull plug, one lead from ohm meter to female, they are numbered so you'll know which, if any have a problem, other to ground, I use PS cap. Don't know how to check relay.
