W126 Mud-Flaps

Hi,
I just purchased a 1991 350SDL.I looked on ebay uk and found mud-flaps for the W126,but the seller said that it would only fit 1979-1985 W126's.I know that they do have the mud-flaps for the newer W126's as I had them on all mine.Would these mud-flaps fit the 350SDL?

Some folks feel that mudflaps look out of place on a MB, but it's your car, I say do whatever you want to it, make it look how you want. As for Euros, I would say that they are not just a styling improvement, but a safety upgrade with the better lighting they provide.

I second that. I just put Euros w/ Vacuum adjustment on my 300sd. The light pattern really is a lot better than sealed beams.

Lots of european Mercedes, (especially the W123 series) had mud flaps, and they do work, they are functional. And, the 1st generation and second generation bodies (SE ande SEL) are basically the same so 1981-85 mudflaps would probably fit on your car also, and keep the fenders cleaner.

However, most people feel that aesthetically they are a disaster, and wouldn't look very good. Like whitewall tires and curb feelers....

Euro lights, however, are a REAL worthwhile improvement, they are brighter and cast a better beam pattern than the DOT mandated ones the US spec cars got stuck with. Unless you carry heavy loads and passengers in teh rear seats, the headlight thumwheel dash adjusters really aren't necessary, in my view. Just adjust them well when you have them installed. I wsent for the Bosch H4 units from Capitol West in Sacramento. I think it was about $650 for everything, which include the darker orange euro front corner blinkers, which look nicer than the US ones in my opinion. The Euro lights are technically *cough* for off use only, and illegal for the highway, but that law doesn't get enforced though, as far as I know.

If you replace the euro wipers also, they give a better look than the ugly US wipers. You could also simply remove the US headlight wipers for a very clean look without them. Or, purchase the euro wipers, and valance pieces you would need, and install those. The euro headlight wipers and motors are expensive though.

And just what is wrong with whitewalls and curb feelers??? They kinda offset the sparkle of the fake wire wheel hubcaps. And speaking of fake wires, have ya ever seen a Japanese or European manufacturer that can make wire wheel hubcaps that rattle as you go down the road like the Americans can? Th rattley sound they make kin be kinda comfortin, kinda confirms ya are still motovatin on down th road. Nope, they gest kin't make um, not on your tintype! And rebuild/upholster yore interior...naw, jest go fer th Mexican blanket over th seats trick. Failin that, you can jest use T-shirts over the front buckets instead of th sheepskin seat covers. But this stylistic license MUST also include the padded vinyl top option. And after you do all that, ya just gotta go fer a raked down front end. And put a shapely hula girl inna back winder! Iffa ya kin't find one o' th hula girls, as thar are kinda rare (ya see, mah cousin Billy Joe Bob Don has done some serious collectin on them thar things- we'uns inna family do need ta talk to his Mommy N Pappa bout that boy - his Momma N Pappy wus cousins, and fell in love atta early age) ya might wanter go with th doggy inna winder trick. Ya know, th one that the eyes light up in conjunction with yer tail lights/turn signals/brake lights and its' head bobbles with each bump inna road. And a nude necker knob onna steering wheel - know our cars have power steering and the necker knob ain't real necessary, but it kinda completes the motif onna car . And speakin o really dressin th ole car up, you really need to paint th sucker inna bright large diamond metal flake (ya know- th stuff ya see on boats), perferrable bright yeller, green, or flamin red. 'N' ya jest gotta have a NASCAR sticker onna rear bumper. You do alla that and you can consider yore car DONE man .

Sorry, guys, jest miah redneck showin :fork_off:

Regards,

The difference is some of the later cars had an additional plastic piece covering the rocker area.
I had the mud flaps on my W126...
I loved them, kept the car very clean, unfortunately the rough winters where I lived claimed them. The ice ripped the plastic right apart.
Do I recommend them? Only if you live in FL.
