Post What to do with most of the interior out.

I found a nearly perfect blue interior off of a 90 300SE that i'll be putting into my 300SD. During the process, I'll have different parts of the interior apart. What should I do as far as maintenance and mods go? Already I know the following should be done:

-Replace the climate control pods
-Remove and clean the evaporator
-Rewire the speakers

What else?

You might want to consider increaseing the soundproofing in the cabin floor areas. There are some good inexpensive ways available. As well as some expensive ones.

I second that. Dynamat or some similar product goes a long way in reducing interior noise. Put it wherever you can afford it. RT

I would reccomend E-dead, from elemental designs. Only 1$ a sq ft, and also comes in a nice liquid paint on form.

Take some digital pictures for your buddies here to follow along if "they" get lucky enough to find a new interior for their old Benz's....

If you don't already know this place, here is where you can buy new pods....

Try POR-15 instead. Hard as nails and lasts much longer than grease.

Look here http://bquiet.com/ and you'll find a number of soundproofing options. I did the interior of my 99 F-350 and it really made a difference. Good stuff, and cheaper than other similar products.

Well, my luck took a turn for the worst. Someone nabbed the rear bench and stole my stubby screw driver and volt meter . I guess I'll still tear her apart and clean her up (mold EVERYWHERE), fix the seat motors, and various other things.

Slightly off topic, what gauge wire should I lay down for the speakers?

And thanks for the links to autolux and b-quiet.
Much cheaper alternative than to buy all new pods.

Let me see, said the blind man to his deaf & dumb daughter as he stuck his wooden ...

arm out the window to see if it was raining.

Try rebuilding the seats with the pool noodles. Cost almost nothing and sure rides better. I've my interior out now and am re-dye-painting the seats and carpets with the SEM vinyl/carpet dye. Looks to be a really good deal. Relube power seats if you have them. If your wood on door panels can be redone or replaced, now is a good time to tackle that also. Also, recheck rubber bits on vacuum system for door locks. I have tried to find my leak to no avail (put in over 30 feet of the special vacuum hose) and am changing over to electric locks at this time also. (I just yelled CALF ROPE & quit) ....came up with two electric systems thru an e-bay error and will sell one system CHEAP.

Great time for a total repaint, if needed.

Run-em, what do you recommend for seat lube?

Yes, repaint, it needs it, but money doesn't allow it

Wire Gauge

For a stock or moderately powered system (like 50W per channel) 14awg would be more than enough. 16awg would be fine as well.

Don't get anything fancy! If anything, spend more for something with better physical proterites so it will last longer, be resistant to scraping etc.

good luck,
dd
