97 E300 D, diff seals, fuel tank removal

Hi everyone, my name is Tim.
I am new to this forum and thinks it's fantastic.
so much knowledge out there that amazes me.
I own 80 to 84 123's and am helping a friend on his 97.

two questions.
1. what is the best way to put new seals in the diff, halfshaft and pinion.
It seems best to remove the halfshaft ends, flex coupling and remove the diff completely. then just do it on the bench.
I have no manual for this car.

2. how do you remove the fuel tank. I would like to install a new fuel strainer.
I see the four bolts that hold the tank in, but what is the easiest way to remove the supply and return lines. it looks ugly from below.
can I pull the lines through a bit and disconnect from inside the trunk.
thanks.
