Timing setup on 95 300 Diesel
I'm about to set up the new cams, timing chain and injector pump sprocket on my 95 diesel after the vacum pump broke and trashed all these parts. The mercedes manual says to align the cams with the set up marks at crank TDC which I've done. The part I'm not shure of is the Injector pump timing. I took the pump to an repair shop and had them set the pump up at #1 point of delivery. the manual says point of delivery set at 14.5deg after TDC. My plan is to install the pump and turn the engine 14.5 deg ,remove the pump and set it back to 0 deg. and reinstall. does this make sence? Jim

It is easier to do than you think. Initially, don't even worry about the IP timing and get your cam/crank set properly. I am not 100% sure in regards to the 95 but on the earlier ones you set the pump using a special locking tool. I locks down on a tab in the side of the pump. Lock the pump down and put the crank at whatever setting it is supposed to be based on the manual and then install the pump.
Do a search on ip locking tool and you can read all about it. It is a pretty inexpensive tool.
