240 manual engine and tranny into 300d non-turbo automatic

I want a very specific car: a China Blue 240D, manual windows with a manual sunroof and 4sp. My 240 doesn't have a sunroof but I went and looked at an non-turbo 300D yesterday with a destroyed engine and an automatic transmission. How easy would it be to transplant my entire drivetrain into the 300? I did an engine switch last week in my 240D so I have a flawless motor and everything works...just no sunroof .

Thanks,
Rich Mason

Do a search on engine transplant and you will get more information than you care to read.

This would be a very doable transplant, but I would personally not do it unless I had both the donor AND the recipient car within easy walking distance of my toolbox.

Isn't that backwards??? Don't most people put 300's into the 240's not the other way around?

I'm sure he would, but the 617 was blown he said.....

Its an easy swap so long as they are the same model chassis (w123, etc.) As said before, it helps to have both cars side by side, as there are several little parts that need to be swapped with it. I had the luxury of finding a 240 sitting by a 300 in the wrecking yard when I did my swap, so I was able to compare and strip the 300 right there in one trip.

I bought it for $400

has some bondo on one front fender and some mildew and the usual blue dash cracks (my black dash in the 240 is perfect) but otherwise it is exactly what I wanted. I will switch out the power windows and swap the drivetrain and an excellent fender from my 240 and be ready to go! Maybe do the interior next year as I have an immaculate maroon interior with newly restuffed seats, which will not match the blue dash in the 300d until I have time to swap dashes.

Now that I have the carm does it make more sense to just swap in a good 300d engine? Are these available and how much should I expect to pay?

Many thanks,
Rich

They are avalable. I paid $750 for mine, but they can be had for much less.
