Transmission shifter rattles when I put it in drive...

The transmission shifter rattles when i'm going down the road in drive. There is a little bit of play in there but if I stick an ink pin between the D slot and the shifter to apply a little bit of pressure it stops. And a couple of times the transmission will not engage in D unless I pull it down a little bit. Is there a little bushing in there that would make it do this?

Classic sign of worn shifter bushings.

They are available as replacements and need to be pressed into the shifter arm and the transmission arm. I removed the shifter to do this job, but, others have managed to get a suitable vice grip in there and press them in place while the shifter remains in the vehicle.
