I've got an '85 300D Turbo. I'm new to this. I bought the 3 air cleaner housing mounts because my air cleaner housing was just sitting on top of the bracket. When I went to attach the mounts to the bracket, the threads are too big to fit in the available holes.

There's a second set of holes in the bracket that are occupied already with what appears to be a fixed bolt with a nut on it. When I take this nut off the fixed bolt, it fits on the mounts I bought !!

What is going on here ? Why don't the mounting bolts fit in the available holes ?

Also, I had to remove a rigid metal line from the turbo to get the bracket out. It was oily at the connection. Should there be a gasket in this connection ?

Does this help? I put nuts on the mounting studs where they go through the bracket. The threaded connections in the bracket tend to strip.
