300sd acc blows warm all the time

Hi all. I've never posted before, but, I get so much excellent information from this forum I was hoping someone could help me narrow this down. I have a 81 300sd with the dreaded acc. I get warm air from all settings even when the temp is set to cold, except when driving around town with the compressor engaged. Once I get on the freeway the the cooled air goes hot again. I've searched the forum and had no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
