PRNDSL safty switch?

anyone know how to disable the swithch that prevents the car from starting in R,D,S,L? right now mine is also preventing me from starting in P & N!
I had to leave my car in a parking lot for the night and go back tomorrow and see it it'll start :(

the car is a 1982 300TD

have you tried holding the shifter all the way forward? I don't know an easy way to disable it, but you can bypass it, put the car in park, set the emergency brake, turn on the key to the glow position, and open the hood.
find the junction block on the passenger's side fender, and short the white and the red wires with a screwdriver or a set of car keys. she will start right up.

Here's an electrical diagram for the starter switch. I hope the JPG doesn't get buggered up.

I realize that the proper response would be to look at the neutral safety switch, but that takes time and if this is a daily driver, then.....

I have done this before on a 80 300D. It was a daily driver and I shorted the switch out until I had time to fix it. Just for fun I put it in drive and started it, no problem. :D

I'll try and locate the area where the violet and violet/white wires are on another diagram.

Here's the location for C-146, to the right of the steering column near the floor.

Try holding the key in the start position, while rocking the shifter around N.

Take a few inches of wire and jump the junction box on the passenger side wheel well, just forward of the battery. This junction box is pretty small, about an inch by three inches and probably has a black cover on it. You'll see two larger connections on the right and one smaller on the left, if memory serves. Put the car in park, turn the key to the on position as usualy, then instead of turning it to the start position, get out and touch the wire from the smaller screw connection to either of the bigger connections. This bypasses both the key and the neutral safety switch.
