79 300SD Power steering question
I have a 79 300SD in excellent condition. Have maintained timely and normal service for my car (oil/fluid changes, etc.,...) but in the last month or so...have started hearing a "yawwing" sound when I turn the wheel. It's normally much more pronounced upon starting the car early in the day and eases off the longer I drive - although it's still noticeable when I drive.
Warm weather (I live in Los Angeles) seems to make this less pronounced as well. I still have the original Mercedes owners book and it mentions power steering fluid as somehow connected with the Transmission fluid (?) but haven't found any specific valve for power steering fluid. I'm about to just take it to my mechanic but don't want to bring it in only to be told...just add some poewer steering. Does anyone out there know what I can do? Is there an actual power steering intake under the hood? Or is this a sign of a different issue? |

How is the fluid level? Pull off the nut and cap and take a look. The system is seperate from the transmission.
