There used to be an old saying, "If you can't shoe your own horse..."

The mentality of these folks driving 20+ yr old cars expecting miracles amazes me.

Todays marketing seems to be the equivalent of yesterday's wild west. Its survival of the fittest boys.

If you can't shoe your own horse...

I'll just leave it at that.

Hi Quinn, You should wire the Injection Line Heaters to come on in the accessory (radio) position. That way you can pre heat longer before you energize your glow plugs. Have Fun.

This kind of crap gives alternative fuel use a bad rap and this has always been my beef with Brian Freedman, Nubius, The Veggie Wrangler, Lovecraft or whatever it is this year. He does not install "System" at all, he installs a Davco 234 filter, a Carter gasoline pusher pump which delivers fuel at a lower pressure than the Mercedes lift pump produces and, of late, he installs a small heat exchanger. The small factory fuel lines are steel and unheated so you are trying to suck thick fuel through lines without reducing its viscosity with heat, in addition Vegetable oil forms polymers which bond to mild steel, like the tank, lines, internals of the IP and injectors damaging them or blocking flow. Add to all this that the Davco 234 is designed to be used under vacuum and he is using a pusher pump to attempt to overcome the difficulty the stock pump has drawing molasses through unheated lines!

The 234 has a check valve on the inlet side of the filter, the intention is to allow fuel into the filter as it is being drawn out, the fuel then seeks a level above the clogged portion of the filter allowing the user to have a visual indication of the filters condition, so with a clean filter the fuel level in the filter would be low just as was reported in both incidents.... Unless you had a pusher pump filling the filter, in this case you would expect to see the filter full of fuel... Unless the pusher pump failed and the stock LP was now being asked to draw oil through the filter, a non-working pump as well as the cold lines and tank, this would increase vacuum on the fuel system components between the lift pump and the tank, as the vacuum increased the likelihood of vacuum leaks would increase and I know from experience that the Davco can only handle so much vacuum before it will leak air, the Carter pumps are also known to leak air. Since both incidents happened shortly after accelerating to freeway speeds, I would speculate that air had entered the system as vacuum increased because the "system" is being designed by a failed tattoo artist who does not know the first thing about engines or fuel systems and its design is riddled with issues.

Chris... Thanks for posting that. It was interesting to see that my orriginal kit (before the heat exchanger) was just a combo of storebought parts. I have had mixed feelings about the Brian/Lovecraft bashing because I think his service sucks and he runs his business like an ASS, But as I have said before the conversion has run well for me. Ive got like 8000 miles in about 13 months on WVO. Now that I know he is just hooking up a filter/pump from Davco... one that they sell to run cars on wvo. Seems that he is really a scammer. Thank you for posting this...

The davco is a modified diesel filter, the original unit has a lower wattage heater simply to prevent diesel from gelling in the cold, Davco put in a higher wattage element and added a sticker reading "SVO". While it is capable of heating the oil enough that it can pass through the filter, it is incapable of heating the oil to a point considered appropriate for acceptable completeness of combustion (160F at the IP inlet citations available on our research bibliography pages). In addition diesels bypass fuel past the rings during warm-up and while diesel oils have dispersion packages designed to deal with this contamination by diesel fuel, they do not deal with vegetable oils other than turning the lube oil to mayonaise. I do not recommend injecting any VO before the engine is warmed up and the fuel is at an appropriate temperature or lube oil contamination will occure and a slow build-up of carbo will be formed on the piston crown and ring lands.
