how hard would it be to take some of that off an 85+ and stick it in my 81? mainly the vac amp and maybe the antilock

Thumbs up

My SD ('85) has ABS. I thought it was an option late '83 for US cars? I've seen one '85 SD with airbag.

Anyway, my '80 380SE-5.0 has ABS too.

601/2/3 all came with block heater standard, just need the cord.

I'd run a W126 with the 617 over any W123 with the 617.

Airbags were actually optional on the US models as early as 1984 (on the S-Class sedans/coupe), as Hattaras already mentioned.

1985, optional again, except on the 500SEL and 500SEC, where it was standard- and standard on all for 1986- also as he already mentioned.

ABS optional in 1984-85, except again, standard on the 85' 500SEL/SEC. My 85' 380SE has the antilock (ABS) option, but not the airbag option. Airbag option was quite rare on the 84-85 300SD/380SE, but there are some out there. I almost bought a 84' 300SD once with the airbag option.

I'd sure like to see one of the 85 foot long cars that you guys keep mentioning.

my '85 has ABS.

I don't want it in my next car. Too much hassle. Doesn't even work now ( I have checked and cleaned all the sensors)

How do you know if you have ABS?

Given this thread, I am assuming my 84 300SD is non-ABS, but how do you know if your car has it? Is it written somewhere on the car's panel?

I am in the process of purchasing some new front bearings and there is an ABS and a non-ABS option. That's what got me wondering.

As an aside: I know I can probably clean and re-use my old bearings, but when working on my VW Passat TDI and changing its brakes, the dominant opinion on that forum was that its worth the extra cost to get new bearings, so I thought I'd also do it on my Mercedes.
