Unhappy power issues

hi guys...

just put almost 1000 miles on my 1980 300sd and now it seems as i have no pickup. the fuel line came off the number 4 injector and i fixed it and even though i am not dropping diesel everywhere, i feel as if there is no pickup and hard to get to cruising speed ie 65-70 mph.

i should recheck all my lines to the injectors? if i have a leaking injector(bad seal) which i may have is this going to cause lack of power? i am going in for service today. should i have my injectors flushed? any other ideas would be helpful.

thank you.

First thing to do is a simple fuel filter change. Do both filters. 10 minute job. Make sure to fill the secondary filter with some burnable liquid such as diesel fuel, purge, or ATF. Report back.

Lyle,

Welcome back to the diesel world!

Do like Kerry Edwards suggested. Also make sure there is no air in the fuel lines.

I do not know if this model has an ALDA even though it is a turbo car. If it does have an ALDA, and you did work around the #4 injector, check the hard line between the ALDA and the banjo bolt on the back of the intake. Those hard lines get brittle with age and break easily.

A broken hard line will give the condition you are describing. I found that out the hard way my self.
