84 190D 2.2 to 86 190D 2.5?

I have a 86 190D 2.5 with a bad main bearing. It has been retired for about a year and now i have stumbled across a 84 190D 2.2 with a recently rebuilt engine~30K and a troublesome tranny.

I would like to put the 84 engine into the 86 are these engine transmissions are interchangable.

Thanks,
Stephen

If nothing else, you might look for a ragged out gasser. I have heard that the gasser and diesel trans are compatible, at least the manuals are.

In my opinion, I would try to find another 602 turbo motor just for its performance in the 201 chassis. The 602 turbo even makes the heavier 124 relatively quick. They didn't make very many of the 2.5T's; I'd try to keep it stock. Downgrading to that 601 is going to be a pretty big performance hit...you'll be losing a cylinder and the turbo.

I wonder if an engine from a 90-93 300D would bolt into a 201? They're essentially the same engines, but with the EDS controls.

The 602 in the 86 is a non turbo engine. so i'm going rom a n/a 5 to a n/a 4 cyl.

Performance is not of the greatest concern here. The 84 601 engine with 30K on it for $500 IS.

I just need to know if they will swap straight over.

Thanks,
Stephen
