300D Hood Ornament

After washing the car today, the hood ornament now falls over in the wind. Is there a fix for that or is it new ornament time?

Thanks!

New sounds good to me!

I think there is a spring that holds it up. Remove the hood star (just twist the "cage" around the mount) and take a look.

I've tried to get the hood star out, but for some reason I can't. I can hear springs making noises as I move it around though.

You may need pliers to twist it. That thing is tough. Pull down and twist ccw (looking from the bottom)

Ok, from the bottom. That makes sense.

The star may be damaged to the extent that you will need to remove pin on the bottom. Should pull out from top after that, clamp from bottom. To install new star, it should just drop in, otherwise rotate "u" shaped clamp till in position to drop in. Using channel locks, grasp bottom edge of clamp, pull down, rotate cw, release pliers on spring. Do not squeeze sides. Hope this helps.

Would it be easier to remove the grill first?

Ok. I was just wanting it to be a bit easier than playing the reach into the tiny space with pliers...

No need to remove grill, just be careful not to bang your head. Did mine in about five minutes. You'll understand better when you get the new star.
