New Owner of 1985 300 D Diesel
I have a manual 85' Graymarket. I cannot get in the trunk... Also there is power steering fluid leaking onto the engine, Not really sure what to do. Just seals or whole pump?
I would like to get a new boot for the stick and a new wooden Mercedes handle,. Any ideas? |

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the manual gray market 300D.
They are very lively cars, and sought after for that reason, because they are faster and more fun to drive than the typical US specification car, which had the automatic transmission, and after 1982, the turbo. Procedurally on this forum, it'd probably be better to ask your questions on the "Diesel Discussion" section, below, (to get more answers) because your car is a diesel, and most W123 cars (like yours) were diesels, so your model is VERY familiar to the hundreds of visitors to the Diesel Discussion site. Also, the members here LOVE to look at pictures. The euro 123 cars are especially intriguing. The leather boot is not so easy to find (few manual transmission 123 cars here, so few in junkyardes) so I'd ask the dealer about this, or even a good upholstery shop if they could fashion one for you. Maybe ebay germany might have one, search "W123" on teile & zubehor? (www.ebay.de) The wood or wood/leather shift knob sounds like a nice upgrade for your car. Make sure the wood matches the other wood trim in your car. I'm almost certain it would be Zebrano wood for your model, the W123, and NOT burlwood or tigerwood. But maybe someone else knows...and if not, that's a good place to ask the question, and how to install it. Ebay is a great place to look and compare shift knob styles and prices. typical auction for one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mercedes-107-R107-123-W123-116-W116-Zebrano-Shift-Knob_W0QQitemZ280099178520QQcategoryZ33703QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Here's a zebrano: http://www.performanceproducts4benz.com/Productpage.aspx?pid=109316&name=Solid%20Wood%20Shift%20Knob%20With%20Shaft I am wondering if your O-ring for the power steering pump is shot, or you need a new power steering gearbox or a power steering pump for the car, these do fail sometimes on the Mercedes. Good luck.

If you want too keep the car "original" you can find a shifter knob and boot on eBay, also you can get both at the parts dept here. Personally I think Euros have allot of class the way they were designed.
