1983 300SD rear problem - need advice
Hi, I have a 1983 300SD and have a leak where the driveshaft meets the differential. I bought a new seal but I am wondering how much of a job it is going to be to replace it. Has anyone had any experience doing this? Dennis

I have the same problem
I've been hitting it with Simple Green degreaser and a hose every time I wash the car. That's been enough not to leave anything on the garage floor, but I know at some point this year I'll need to tackle that job.
I'm taking a break from serious car work at the moment (just fluids and filters right now). That front and rear suspension rebuild on my 84 SD was an *ss kicker (lot of work and $$$). If you tackle it - take some pics and do a little write-up for us! Please!!!!

Use the search function for "pinion gear seal replacement" I haven't tackled this yet myself but have read a lot of good info on it. From what I see now would be a good time to replace flex disks and center bearing since all that has to come out to change this seal. Good Luck and let us know how it goes!
