Passed Emissions today
 

I passed my second emissions test since I bought my car today. 6.9% opacity out of an allowed 20% Amazing considering how badly it smokes. But at least I'm good for another year. Last year I got a 2.6% result so I hope the motor is not deteriorating rapidly.

Diesel?

AZ requires smog on diesels?

what fuel are you running? I'm thinking not ULSD.

Phoenix has the most restrictive smog requirements in the nation in my opinion. Yes Diesels are smogged. From 1967 on. Even alternative fuel vehicles are smogged. Gassers can be tagged for two years, ie, when you get thru emissions you can go for two years before having to test again if you want, diesels have to be done every year.

As for the fuel. Yes it's ULSD. Every pump I've used in the last six months has the ULSD sticker on it.

interesting, so last year you may have been running LSD, and you tested 'cleaner' than you did this year w/ ULSD. yes, perhaps some engine issue, how much oil does she burn?

Perhaps the engine burns more oil on ULSD and thus tests higher? ULSD, despite additives, still has lower lubricity than LSD and biodiesel.

Interesting, I've never had to smog any of my diesels in CA.

Well. As I've been changing my oil every 1K to 2K miles I've not really noticed oil consumption. It does use some but I've not noticed really. I shall start taking carefull note of the consumption from my next oil change.
