Remember kids, when you hear a weird sound, it's probably bad
I knew my LR bearing was going out. There was some horrible grinding noise going on in there. Make a right turn and the tire would shift and make a different noise. Left turn, shift again, different noise. Unfortunately, this was my only transportation to go to work and other such errands.
Coming off the freeway yesterday, the LR area started making noises I've never heard before. Came up to a stop light, then when I tried to accelerate, the car barely moved. I was .2 miles from home and there was no way I was going to get a tow (again). I limped home, revving the motor enough to move forwards. Put it in my driveway and the transmission got all mad and blew a line. Here's what happened: http://www.cityhicks.com/merc/ I'm not too sure what made the perfect cut, but I couldn't have cut the rotor more straight unless I was on a CNC machine. Control arm is coming out tomorrow, I have the new one sitting in my garage. |

Sorry to read and view your problems, however on the up side of this is that you did not have a wreck and hurt someone! This is a great pictorial on what can happen when one does not listen to, or pay attention to their cars! What surprises me is the fact that you appear to have a nice place to work, and some good tools to work with, and still didn't investigate the "weird" noises........:eek: SB |

Wheel bearing failed first, brake rotor was in a bind and the rotor failed.
Lucky you didn't crash. I would replace the other side as well. |
You shouldn't let wheel bearings get that bad, you could lose a wheel.
The race is probably shot, I'd start to source a new hub... |
