Where to find best price for tranny rebuild kit?
I am looking for an online source to find a transmission rebuild kit. I live 2 hours from the dealer. Has anyone ordered one offline? Or gotten one a major parts chain?

MB trannies are not simple rebuilds, manual or automatic.
On the manual, you must set the correct bearing clearances with shims, and that means proper measuring tools so you don't have to take it apart ten times, and on the automatics a simple clutch pack rebuild usually won't fix it -- by the time they go bad, usually they need drums, bands, servos, a valve body rebuild, and pinion gear set repair, sometimes new gearsets, too. Needless to say, all new bearings, too (and they are NOT plastic sleeves!). By the time you get all this done, $1500 for a swap makes a whole lot more sense. Peter |
I've never met a manual that was not that way. I've usually been able to take the case and needed parts to a shop for the measurement, then continue with the rebuild myself.
