leaky water pump?
I think I have a leaky water pump - coolant seems to be dripping down from that area onto my driveway even when the car is just sitting. However, the other day it didn't leak at all. If the seals are starting to go, can they have good days and bad days? Just wondering.
My belts all need to be replaced, so this will be added to the list of things to do.

Well, pending how bad it is, heat expansion/contraction could cause the leak to come and go, or crud washing into the leak area could seal it temporarily. Also if it happening due to a tired bearing, it could be affected by where the bearing slops to each time it stops. Best thing I could think of its to clean around the bearing and weep hole well, then run it for a bit at home to heat it up and build coolant pressure (watching the temp in case it should be leaking worse than you realize) to see if you can make it leak, then look for stains.

Yep, that sounds like a water pump.
Check the existing pump and see if there is a tiny MB Star on it. If so, it is probably the original pump. Check the dealer for core exchange price. A real MB replacement pump might be cheaper than an aftermarket part. Plan on changing that short thermostat hose while you are in there.
