I double-checked again. The WIS shows the following:

1) For OM602/603 engines, it only references the 35 Nm spec, same as the print manual. There's no reference to the 3-stage procedure noted in the (separate) TDM manual.

2) For 606.91x engines, it shows the same document I linked to above, from the W124 CD manual, which has the 3-stage procedure noted.

3) For 606.96x engines, there is NO documentation at all for delivery valve O-ring replacement. And, the EPC does not show part numbers either, meaning that Mercedes doesn't officially condone replacing the seals on 606 turbo engines, and doesn't officially sell the parts, either.

The 606.96x delivery valve seals may be identical dimensions to ones used on the earlier pumps but I think we'd need to get Bosch part numbers to find out what, if any, difference there is. Sure sounds like everyone is using the older type seals without problems though (preferably Viton, lol.)

Hmmmm....so that leaves us 96-99 folks where? Confused I suppose. Your 124CD doesn't reference the .912 i think, only the .910

Thanks for looking.

I can speak from my own imperical experience on my '98 which developed DV leaks about a month after I started using ULSD.

Firstly, the replacement parts DO show up in my version of the EPC and are listed as A0179974148 for the o-rings and A0049974540 for the crush washers for the 606.962 engines. So I believe MB intended them to be servicable. Most parts people can't find them because they are buried on Page 2 of the diagram pages so they don't see the right picture.

When I replaced delivery valve seals back in December I used OEM o-rings and copper crush washers and they appeared to be identical to what had been on the pump to start with. I used the 30-30-35 procedure for torquing down the valve bodies but I'd bet using just 30 straight would be fine too.

In fact, using 30 once would reduce the likelyhood of tearing the o-ring it it was not sufficiently lubed prior to being installed. I dunked my valve bodies in fresh fuel right before I screwed them in so they were soaked and well lubed and saw no evidence of any tearing or snagging when I loosened and tightened them.

So far, so good...4 months and no leaks.

What version of the EPC do you have, Marty? My April-2005 worldwide EPC-FP does not show the seal for any 606 engines in North America. Here's the reverse lookup screen shot, and the IP diagram page 2, for North America models.

Ah, but they do show up for Euro models of the 606.962... interesting. Different diagrams for NA and Euro, and Euro shows more parts. Here's the Euro screen shots:

I must have the euro version of the EPC then - the parts were supplied by my dealer once I gave them the numbers though. I bought the DVDs off ebay...probably bootlegged software from overseas.
