240d Idle Adjustment
Well my 240d has a very low idle. Car almost dies on me when the AC is on and when I first start in the morning it struggles for a little bit. My idle adjust knob is there, but does not work.
I found the cable in the engine bay for the idle adjust knob, and have been searching the forums for pictures on where the cable hooks up. Well I found a few, checked the same area on my car, and that area does not exist (next to the STOP lever under the hood). The stop lever is there however there is nowhere I can hook the cable up. The portion of the stop lever that the cable hooks onto has been cut off - I can see where a blade had cut through. I have no idea why anyone would do that. So I believe I am going to be out of luck as far as the idle adjust is concerned. Is there a way I can adjust the idle under the hood permanently since the idle adjust will not work? I have seen that others have adjusted nuts on threads to change idle, but I have many - and was wondering which ones I need to adjust to increase the idle. Thanks! |

I dont have a picture to show you, but I think there is a good shot of one on here, in somebodys thread? Just follow your linkage from the injector pump, where it starts to go up to where your linkage is for your manual shutoff lever, you will see an adjusting screw. The thing is thick, probably 3" long or so, with a locking nut on the bottom. Take a 14mm deep well socket, this will slip over the long adjusting screw, and break the lock nut loose. You will then screw the idle adjustment down to increase your idle. I took the whole adjusting screw out and lubricated the threads, plus there is a pointed spring loaded plunger on the bottom, I lubed that up also and re-inserted. I'm still playing with my idle, as I to have a broken cable on my manual idle.
good luck! Jim

Not to be obvious-man here, but sounds like you need to find another linkage without the area cut off, then re-hook up your cable. You also need the little insert/bushing thing at the end of the cable.
Lots of yard-hounds here, so if you can't come across one, I'm sure somebody can. Adjust your idle screw on the IP in the mean time....
