Black vacume hose under dash
I have a n 84 300SD, I was pulling wires under the dash throught the firewall and I found a Black Vacume Hose with nothing attached to the end under the dash. The other end attaches to the square metal device on the rear of the injection pump. Where is the end under the dash supposed to attach to?

your ignition key cylinder. it turns off the fuel to the motor when you turn off the key.
there should be another hose there also, it goes to the vacuum source in the engine compartment. John

The black line is a vent, it is supposed to be opened under the dash (the "fuel cutoff" line to the ignition switch is brown). It's OK as is, leave it alone.

vent huh? ok, I learned something again... still slowly though. on my TD the lines are black, and the brown line connects to the black line just before it goes through the firewall.

If you look at this diagram, the black (sw) line going to "b" is the vent line we're talking about:
